Queensland's Protected Area Estate Expanded - National Parks Association of Queensland

The Minister for Environment, Dr Steven Miles MP announced a significant expansion of Queensland’s protected area estate today, which includes three new national parks. NPAQ welcomes the QLD Government’s decision to add 366,000 ha to our protected area estate.

NPAQ has been advocating for many of these areas to be gazetted for several years now.

These properties were purchased previously with joint Federal/State Government funding under the now defunct NRS program, and were awaiting gazettal for some time.

The areas contribute to increasing the protection of a number of bioregions, ecosystems and habitats for threatened species that are currently inadequately represented.
