Social Walk – Chermside Hills Reserves

The Brisbane City Council is creating activities in their reserves that are clean and green. The information centre at Raven Street Reserve has a good display to demonstrate what we should all be doing. This Wednesday walk will take in the Raven Street, Milne Hill and Chermside Hills Reserves. These Reserves are part of the Mangroves to Mountains corridor that extends from Camp Mountain in the D’Aguilar Range to the Boondall Wetlands and Moreton Bay. The reserves comprise open forest, woodland and dry rainforest, along the banks of Downfall and Little Cabbage Tree Creeks. The 129 hectares of bushland is home to 200 native plant species, 115 bird species, water dragons, turtles, frogs, wallabies, gliders, possums and a colony of flying fox.
We will meet at the Raven Street information centre for an early morning tea before setting off on a 6 kilometre return walk through Raven Street Reserve and Milne Hill Reserve. There is the option for those walkers who would like to step it out to extend the walk by another 2 kilometres by doing a circuit in the adjoining Chermside Hills Reserve. We will return to the Raven Street picnic ground for lunch. By doing the walk this way we will only need a light pack with our water and any personal items.

Bring Hat, sunscreen, morning tea, lunch, drinking water, folding chair and $5.00 nomination fee

Meet at the carpark for the Raven Street Reserve information centre. GPS coordinates -27.38930S 153.00509E

Activity Report: Nine members arrived on a balmy (almost Spring) day at the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, Rode Road , West Chermside and set up for an early morning tea and chat. We headed off on the planned route to inspect the Senses Trail and then the Banksia Track to cross the wildlife/pedestrian bridge to Milne Hill Reserve and then along the Pomax Track. We crossed to the Chermside Hills Reserve to complete the Giwadha Circuit. On our return journey we climbed to the Milne Hill reservoir for extensive views of Brisbane city and suburbs and to Moreton Bay islands. We had a deviation to the flying fox colony and the viewing deck over Downfall Creek before arriving back at the Bushland Centre picnic ground for lunch. A pleasant 8 kilometre stroll with good friends. Thanks everyone for your company.
