Birdwatching – 2025-03-23 Tarcoola Track, St Lucia

3 members gathered at the start of the Tarcoola Track on an overcast and humid day.  The area was busy with cyclists on the road, and runners and walkers on the track.  13 species observed including: Wonga Pigeon and Bar Shouldered Dove – both heard.  Masked Lapwing x 2, Australian Ibis x 2, Little Corella x 1, Sulpha-crested Cockatoo x 1, Pale-headed Rosella x 1, Rainbow Lorikeet x 5, Variegated Fairywren, female x 1, Red-backed Fairywren, female x 1, Noisy Miner x 10, Blue-faced Honeyeater x 1, Pied Currawong x 9.  The trio drove  a few kilometres to Robertson Park for morning tea and a catch up.

The plan is to follow the Tarcoola Track descending initially down to the river side.  Then the track crosses Sandy Creek and proceeds along between the Brisbane River (Long Pocket Reach) and the St Lucia Golf Links towards Metres Road.  The track can be rough in places with a few steps to negotiate at various points along the way.  The nearest toilets are in Robertson Park, 23A Indooroopilly Road, Taringa.

We will meet at the park on The Esplanade, just past the T Junction of Tarcoola Street & The Esplanade UBD 179 D7.  There are 7-8 car parks adjacent to the road on The Esplanade and these should accommodate our group.

Bring:  hat, sun protection cream, personal first aid kit, enclosed shoes, binoculars, chair, insect repellant and morning tea.

Please do not attend this event if you are unwell.
