Bird Report  – 25.05.2025
A perfectly calm day for birdwatching along the lakeside initially  – then onto a bush track to be greeted by melodious birdsong which accompanied us for 20 minutes of our walk.  6 members and 3 non members attended.  At our meeting point at the car park, we noticed a beautiful, apparently healthy looking,  sulpha crested cockatoo dead on the ground.  There was blood stained colouring above its right leg.
30 species  seen and 1 species heard including:  Black swan x 2, Maned duck x 11, Pacific black duck x 4, Australasian grebe x 5, Australian white ibis x 12, White necked heron x 1, Great egret x 1, Little egret x 1, Australian pelican x 5, Little pied cormorant x 3, Little black cormorant x 2, Australasian darter x 1, Australasian swamphen x 1, Dusky moorhen x 1, Eurasian coot x 1, Masked lapwing x 2, Bar shouldered dove – heard x 2, Little corella x 12, Sulphur crested cockatoo x 1, (alive) Rainbow lorikeet x 17, Little friarbird x 1, Noisy friarbird x 1, Blue faced honeyeater x 1, Noisy miner x 13, Grey butcherbird x 7, Pied butcherbird x 5, Australian magpie x 2, Willie wagtail x 7, Grey fantail x 1, Magpie lark x 3, Torresian crow x 3.

We last visited Bullocky Rest in 2021.  Bullocky Rest  is a picnic area on the edge of Lake Samsonvale.  A walking track follows the lakeside at Bullocky Rest for some distance to Forgan Cove and provides an opportunity to see bush and water birds.
Directions: Â From Gympie Road, Strathpine, 98 Q17 turn west and follow Samsonvale Road for approximately 6.5km. Â Turn right into Forgan Road 97 H9 and follow for 2.2km and turn left into Bullocky Rest Reserve 97 N4. Â Keep to the left and drive to the lower carpark.
Bring: Â Hat, sunglasses, sunburn cream, insect repellant, personal first aid kit, enclosed shoes, binoculars, chair, morning tea and lunch
