Birdwatching 2026-01-18 Toorbul

The 18th of January outing will be to Toorbul Bird Roost to view the wader birds. High tide occurs around mid-morning, and the water should drive the birds up onto the foreshore roost for excellent viewing. We will first meet at Bishop’s Lagoon. Please read the road directions below.

Bring: Hat, sunglasses, sunburn cream, personal first aid kit, enclosed shoes, wet weather protection, binoculars, camera, chair, insect repellent, soap, hand sanitiser, face mask, morning tea, lunch, and any other necessary personal items.

Directions:

Travelling north on the Bruce Hwy, exit left off the Hwy after Caboolture. Before the exit, a large sign with an arrow pointing left is marked: –

DONNYBROOK.

After exiting turn right onto Pumicestone Road, UBD Map 48 L1. Follow this road for 8 klms or 1.3 klms past the Donnybrook turn off, where we will meet at Bishop’s Lagoon, Volz Road. This is a dirt road on the right, passing through unfenced private paddocks. Park on the left after the grid. Advisable to park on the left of Pumistone Road and turn right into Volz Road when traffic is clear. -27.0344857, 153.0514577

Toorbul bird roost: – follow Pumistone Road to Freeman Rd at Toorbul township (Map 41 L18), turn left then turn right onto The Esplanade. Toilets at this intersection. Keep the water on your left and follow this road for 2.3 klms south to its end. You should now be at UBD Map 51 Q 5. -27.046863, 153.108200
