Description: The Somerset Trail is a forest circuit beginning at The Gantry in the Mt Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park. It passes through a variety of forest types including scribbly-gum, rainforest and dry, open forest.
About halfway through the walk, there is a lookout providing great views west to Somerset Dam and the headwaters of Lake Wivenhoe to enjoy over morning tea. It is expected birds will be sighted. There are a couple of hills to be climbed so a moderate degree of fitness is required.
It is planned to have lunch back at The Gantry which is a leftover relic of the area’s timber industry. Bring a chair for lunch in case the tables are all occupied. Toilets are available at The Gantry but no water so ensure you bring adequate supplies.
This activity is supplementary to NPAQ’s Park of the Month Activity on the 18 October. See the website for details.
