Description: Join me for the first walk in 2025 for an easy stroll close to Brisbane in D’Aguilar National Park.
The walk will begin at Jollys Lookout and follow the Thylogale Track to Boombana then past the 300-year-old Strangler Fig-tree to Mt Nebo Village via the Pitta Circuit. A pit stop at the Mt Nebo Cafe for coffee will refuel us for the return journey via the other leg of the Pitta Circuit through Boombana to Jollys Lookout to enjoy the panoramic views across Samford Valley to the coast while enjoying a BYO lunch before the drive home.
The track is quite level with a couple of short, steeper sections and a few steps between Boombana and Mt Nebo Village. The total distance is between 9 and10km. As it is quite an easy walk on a clear, well-maintained track, it would suit families with children from 9-10 years onwards. (Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)
The track passes through a variety of vegetation types including eucalypt and semi-tropical rainforest with patches of palms and ferns enhanced by the calls of the many birds in the area. There is also a chance of spotting native animals.
Please do not attend this event if you are unwell.
Please register for this activity via the NPAQ website completing all fields for each nominee.
Walk Grading: Easy. 9-10km – a reasonable level of fitness is required.
Meet: Jollys Lookout Upper Carpark by 8.30am for an 8.45am start. (If the upper carpark is full, it will be necessary to park in the lower carpark and walk up the short, steep hill to the toilets.)
What to Bring: Hat, light jacket, rain gear (just in case), insect repellent (leeches), torch, whistle, 2 litres of water, snacks, lunch, $5.00 NPA Fee.
Directions: From Brisbane, head up through the Gap along Waterworks Road to Mt Nebo Road. Continue along Mt Nebo Road to Jollys Lookout which is clearly signposted on your left. Carpooling is encouraged. There are toilets at Jollys Lookout and Mt Nebo Cafe.
NB: Mt Nebo Road is narrow and twisty. It is also a favourite ride for cyclists and motorcyclists during weekends. Please leave a little extra time and drive with care.
Nominations: Via NPAQ Website.
