This walk will replace the planned Mt Cordeau & Bare Rock at Cunningham’s Gap. This area of the Main Range is closed due to recent Bushfires.
The Wivenhoe Trails Network is a series of multi use trails at Lake Wivenhoe offering spectacular views of the Lake. Four connecting trails are offered in the area including the Red, White, Blue and Black trails and the total distance of the Trails is approximately 16.7km. The plan is to proceed along the Blue Trail of 5 km length following the Lake around its southern side and explore the other trails within the recreational area.
Expect to see mountain bike riders, horse riders, walkers and trail runners on these paths.
Wivenhoe Dam was built on the Brisbane River in 1984. It is part of South East Queensland’s water grid and the Lake’s primary function is to provide a safe and reliable water supply.
Directions: Lake Wivenhoe is approximately 80 km north west of Brisbane. From Brisbane, follow the Ipswich Motorway westward onto the Warrego Highway. Proceed onto Brisbane Valley Highway and continue on through Fernvale. Turnoff at the Hay Road exit onto Fig Tree Road. Meet at the car park. Toilets are available at this point.
Meet: 0815 for 0830 start
Bring: Water 2-3 litres, hat, sunscreen, rain gear, morning tea and lunch and walking stick if needed.
