New Year Twilight Celebration 2020
Report on the New Year Twilight Celebrations on 5 January 2020
On a warm sunny afternoon 29 members met at The Bower, Dutton Park, a hall leased from Brisbane City Council by Birds Queensland and BirdLife Southern Queensland. The majority of members chose to join Len and walk across the Eleanor Schonell Bridge to the Queensland University precinct. It was an enjoyable walk with the breeze off the Brisbane River as we made our way across the Bridge, along the riverside walking track to the lake. The opportunity to do some bird watching was not missed by some members.
Retracing our steps back to The Bower, we were just in time to “pop the corks” as the nibbles were being handed around. Dinner consisted of ham or chicken wraps followed by choc-orange cheesecake and cream. There was plenty for those who wanted to come back for seconds. This was a great opportunity for members to catch up, with lots of chatting and reminiscing.
Thanks everyone for again making this afternoon a successful and friendly celebration – a great way to bring in the New Year.

This year we will celebrate 2020 on the south side of Brisbane. If you were at last years “picnic in the park” at Everton Park you would be keen to put this activity in your diary/mobile phone. The Bower is a great little hall in Dutton Park opposite the St Lucia campus of the Queensland University. We are hoping that the cool breezes off the Brisbane River will make for a balmy evening of pleasant walking with good company. We will walk the Eleanor Schonell Bridge to the St Lucia Campus and stroll along the Brisbane River. As we plan to retrace our steps back to The Bower, we can tailor the walk to our fitness levels. If you do not wish to do the walk, you are most welcome to come along and join the group staying at the park for a chat. We have a contingency plan if it decides to “rain on our party”. The program will follow the tried and tested format of a walk, nibbles and bubbly/juice and a hearty snack with dessert. If you have dietary requests, please advise the leaders. Nominations close on Monday, 30 December, 2020. If you plan to join us please contact the leaders by phone or email. Entry to parking is from Gladstone Road, then right off Memorial Drive, Dutton Park before you drive under the Eleanor Schonell Bridge
