Birdwatching – 2017 – Sandy Camp Road Lytton 19th November

Defying the forecast of 90% chance of rain, 19 members arrived at Sandy Camp Rd. Reserve with a near cloudless sky. Our first excitement was sighting 23 Magpie Geese flying overhead. With a damp conditions we walked the elevated tracks between very large water holes. Birds of all description were around the edges, on the water or nesting in the trees. Next, we walked through some vegetated areas before walking across an open grass paddock. Whilst looking for a bird of prey high in the sky led to the sighting of three Tawny Frogmouths. Overall this walk provided quite a diverse range of environments with 55 bird species sighted and 4 bird calls heard. Our group then moved to Elanora Park, Wynnum for a combined morning tea and lunch with NPAQ members for the Clif Bell Memorial picnic. A very enjoyable day.
