Social Walk in Bunyaville Conservation Park

Activity Report

Six walkers registered for this activity on a fine spring day.  The Bunyaville Outdoor Education Centre was having a big day with a bus load of children so it could not be classed as a peaceful setting.  Some of the park and the walks were closed awaiting repairs as a result of Cyclone Alfred.  We started with a morning tea and as all the registrants were from the Activities Committee, some business issues were discussed.  The walk was about 4 kilometres and on our return we had our lunch.  A very social day was had by all.

Activity Details

Bunyaville Conservation Park, featured as NPAQ’s Park of the Month for August, is conveniently close to Brisbane city and is surrounded by suburbia. The park is the perfect spot for a picnic or a walk through dry eucalypt forest and is on Albany Creek. Barbecues, picnic tables, drinking water and toilets are provided. The Park is popular for bushwalking, mountain biking, horseriding, orienteering and picnicking. This multiple-use park is also a vital link in the Mountains to Mangroves Corridor, providing essential habitat for plants and animals in South East Queensland. The facilities and tracks have undergone some extensive work to repair damage caused by Cyclone Alfred. On a recent walk in the park, wattles and purple pea were out in full colour, so wildflowers are expected to be out at the time of the walk. The walk is only 4 km long, but it does take in some short steep sections. A walking pole would be useful if you use one. This is a good opportunity to catch up with friends, socialise in the great outdoors and take some images of flora and fauna to contribute to the August Parks Connect BioBlitz.

We will meet at 9:45 am at the Bunyaville picnic area, about 700 metres from Old Northern Road, Bunyaville. UBD Map 118 reference M9. GPS coordinates  -27.375832S   152.979972E .  We plan to finish by 2.00 pm to avoid peak-hour traffic.

Bring a folding chair and morning tea to have before the walk at the picnic area, a bottle of water, sunscreen, a hat, walking pole and picnic lunch.
