Friendly faces in wild places … Stay for free when you volunteer to become a Campground Host in some of Queensland’s most scenic national parks and reserves.
Thanks to all of those who have applied for a volunteer campground host position. Our 2025 intake is now closed as we work through applications and inductions and prepare for deployment. If you applied for this intake, we will be in touch shortly.
Parks Connect Campground Hosts welcome campers, share park know-how and help everyone enjoy a safe, low-impact stay.
The program offers adult Queenslanders with the relevant skills and experience the chance to camp for FREE when they get involved in activities that help Park Rangers manage SEQ’s national park campgrounds, including:
-
engaging with campers
-
explaining local features, tours and activities
-
illuminating visitors about the site’s wildlife and habitats
-
reporting to Park Rangers about conditions
-
and day-to-day campground maintenance and management.
What Campground Hosts do
While they don’t undertake regulatory or enforcement roles or replace Park Rangers, Campground Hosts help ensure visitors have the information they need to enjoy their stay safely, respectfully and responsibly.
Hosts also assist Rangers by supporting the work of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, monitoring conditions and promoting positive park values.
You’ll need to be self-sufficient with your own camping set-up (preferably camper trailer or caravan) and hold a Blue Card and current First Aid certificate.

Hosts help campers feel at home and enjoy a stay they’ll remember for a lifetime.

Hosts come from all walks of life — from retirees to families to solo travellers.
3 reasons to be a Campground Host

1. SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Help visitors and campers form deep connections with the natural world. As a host you’ll be sharing your tips and tales about how to get the most out of camping in Queensland’s national parks.

2. MEET NEW FRIENDS
Forge friendships with locals and travellers who stay at the chosen campground, helping them make memories of Queensland that will last a lifetime.

3. STAY FOR FREE
Camp for extended periods in your own self-contained set-up – a great way to make the most of any long caravanning or vanlife trip around our beautiful state.
