WE HAD SO MUCH FUN AT OUR NOVEMBER 2025 PARK OF THE MONTH

NUDGEE BEACH, MORETON BAY MARINE PARK

The Parks Connect team was joined by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Marine Park Rangers Georgia and Wayne: Katie from the Moreton Bay Foundation; Dr Kat Lowe – ecologist extraordinaire for an exploration of mangrove forests; Michelle from SouKou Yoga for some gentle relaxation; Birds Queensland to check out the wildlife, and the outstanding educators from Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre to explore beautiful Nudgee Beach Reserve and learn all about mangroves, marine turtles, migratory shorebirds and the other wildlife that shares this amazing blue sanctuary of Moreton Bay.

Discover. Connect. Protect. Enjoy

Park of the Month is a key initiative of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and NPAQ’s Parks Connect program.  We’re passionate about parks, and by sharing decades of knowledge from committed volunteers, conservationists and National Park Rangers with local communities and visitors, we hope Queenslanders from all walks of life will fall in love with our amazing wild places.

We’d like to thank all those who attended, as well as the fantastic educators from the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre, all of our other presenters, and, of course, the dedicated QPWS Park Rangers.

Huge thanks, too, to our dedicated volunteers and Parks Connect Volunteer Rangers, who are always on hand to share their knowledge and skills to ensure these days out on-park run smoothly. They’re a winsome bunch, too – always ready with a smile.

Overcast skies didn’t deter Lynda and the team of exceptional educators from Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre. They graciously taught us all how to be Turtle Heroes and ensure turtle nests are kept safe on Moreton Bay’s Beaches. Through engaging field investigations and problem-solving activities along the Nudgee shoreline, we all built real-world conservation skills and a deeper appreciation for marine ecosystems

Our “Roaming” Junior Rangers learnt all about Turtle Forensics as the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre Team delivered engaging, hands-on learning experiences with a strong focus on conservation and sustainability.

Dr Kat Lowe, a passionate wildlife ecologist, scientist, and educator, took attendees for a stroll through a vitally important marine ecosystem and estuarine nursery: Moreton Bay’s magnificent mangroves.

Our Roaming Cadet Rangers learned how to test for salinity and the importance of mangrove and marine ecosystems as fish nurseries, carbon sequestration sinks and detoxifiers of Moreton Bay Marine Park.

The wide open space was great for some gentle yet revitalising yoga and meditation practice, with Michelle from Soukou Yoga inviting participants to move, breathe and reconnect with nature’s calming rhythms.

QPWS Rangers Georgia and Wayne explained why Moreton Bay Marine Park’s green zone is crucial for protecting not only the biodiversity of this beautiful Bay on Brisbane’s doorstep, but also migratory species, like green turtles visiting from Vanuatu and showbirds from Alaska and Shanghai.

Katie Walters, acting CEO of The Moreton Bay Foundation, launched an exciting new initiative – the passport to Moreton Bay, encouraging people to participate in a range of hands-on outdoor activities throughout Moreton Bay. Find out how you can get involved.

Birds Queensland brought along telescopes and guides and spotted an incredible 35 avian species – just from the Parks Connect tent alone! Imagine how many more there is to see if you have the time to truly explore, so grab your binoculars and get looking.
