Due to Easter, this outing is one week earlier than our normal monthly meeting. Kumbartcho Sanctuary & Nursery was originally part of the Bunya Park Wildlife Sanctuary and Zoo. When the Park closed and the land was being developed for residential blocks, the Pine Shire Council purchased this sensitive area for the local community. A volunteer Nursery and Environment Centre has been developed on the site. Large mature trees, and shrubs cover the area with several dams attracting water birds. Pathways and a suspension bridge allow access to the area. The property is situated on the north bank of the South Pine River. Kumbartcho adjoins Sargent Reserve via a walking track. Sargent Reserve has more open vegetation and a concrete pedestrian causeway allows access to both sides of the South Pine River.

Where to meet

7.30am at Kumbartcho car park, 15 Bunya Pine Ct., Eatons Hill. 27°20’46.9″S 152°56’31.5″E -27.346347, 152.942079 – (UBD map 107 N16). There are no toilet facilities on site. Following our bird walk and inspection of the large native plant nursery we will move to Sargent Reserve Car Park, Bunya Crossing Road (entrance opposite the “ROAD ENDS” sign) (107 R18) for morning tea. We can then walk down a track to the river for more birding. This event can be followed by lunch. Toilet facilities are available at Sargent Reserve.
