The Ulysses butterfly, native to northern Australia, is known for its stunning iridescent blue wings that captivate any observer. On the outside, these butterflies are a dull brown, but when they open their wings, they reveal a brilliant blue that is particularly vivid in males.
Their lifecycle begins with eggs that hatch into green, spiky caterpillars after about 5 days. The caterpillar stage lasts around 2 weeks, during which they feed on the leaves of their host plant, the Euodia. After this period, they form a chrysalis, emerging as adult butterflies approximately 12 days later. The Ulysses butterfly is a symbol of the vibrant and diverse wildlife found in Australia’s tropical rainforests. IUCN status: Unknown
