The bush was alive with chattering birds. In particular, the little friarbirds dominated the tree tops with their relentless calling. The flowering mistletoe attracted many birds. The lagoons did not look healthy. The water in the Lily Pad Lagoon -the Lagoon with the Viewing platform- was green which probably accounted for the reduced number of birds noted on this site. 2 Spotless Crakes entertained the group as they search relentlessly through the mud, patiently looking for nourishment. And what makes the heart beat faster than an adult Comb-crested Jacana with two young in its sights. Morning tea was enjoyed and the bird checklist completed at Elanora Park by the Wynnum Boardwalk.
Thanks to all participants for a most enjoyable and successful birdwatching morning.

Torrential rain spoilt our last attempt to visit this wetland in November. So, we’ll try again. Flat constructed pathways meander through the site which houses a diversity of vegetation including woodland, lagoons and open grassland. A wide variety of birds visit this site.
Meet: Sandy Camp Road at the entrance to the wetlands. Brisbane UBD 142 P16
Bring: Hat, enclosed shoes, sunburn cream, personal first aid kit, binoculars, chair, insect repellant,
We will drive to Wynnum foreshore for morning tea as there is no suitable shady area at the Wetlands.
