Child Safety Policy
Statement of commitment
The National Parks Association of Queensland (NPAQ) is committed to providing Parks Connect programs for children and young people that assist them in developing skills to support biodiversity conservation in Queensland and deepen their connection with National Parks and other protected areas.
NPAQ and Parks Connect strive to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people and provide a safe, supportive environment. Child safety will be prioritised by training staff and volunteers, along with ongoing consultation with stakeholders. To continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, NPAQ will regularly review and update policies and practices.
NPAQ values integrity, respect and equity, which reflects the culture Parks Connect programs are committed to achieving and promoting. To provide a positive environment where learning and skill development are encouraged and facilitated, NPAQ will conduct programs in ways that protect and support children and young people from diverse backgrounds. This includes ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people who participate in our programs feel welcome and empowered to share their stories and maintain their cultural identity.
