Daves Creek Circuit

On a wet track, and under threatening skies, the group of seven walkers left Binna Burra through the rainforest. The group paused to consider its options after a rumble of thunder from a distant storm but the general consensus was to move forward. While showers persisted, there were no further signs of a storm. The rainforest gave way to heathland as the group approached the escarpment. Here, the slippery track slowed the group while low cloud obscured the views of cliff-faces and Numinbah Valley below. However, wildflowers and red-tips on the leaves of some native plants showed the flora’s rapid response to recent rains and warmer, spring weather. Lunch was enjoyed in the shelter provided by Molongolee Cave. A break in the cloud at Numinbah Valley Lookout allowed a brief glimpse of the picturesque valley below while the wet conditions at Surprise Rock deterred anyone from climbing over the rock. Soon the group, wet and bedraggled, was back at the teahouse to enjoy a warm cuppa and snacks as a just reward for its efforts.
