Daves Creek 2022

Description: Join us for the final activity for 2022 to explore Daves Creek Circuit in the Binna Burra Section of Lamington National Park. This walk is noted for its variety in vegetation types as the track moves through the rainforest into open heathland with lookouts providing panoramic views over Numinbah Valley. Hopefully, there will still be signs of new growth and plenty of blossoms on the plants as the seasons move from spring to summer.

From Binna Burra, the trail follows the Border Track through sub-tropical rainforest before veering left and descending along the Ships Stern Circuit then branching right to the heathland section along the escarpment overlooking Numinbah Valley.

As we move anti-clockwise around the circuit, we’ll explore Molongolee Cave, enjoy the views from Numinbah and other lookouts as well as climb Surprise Rock and wonder at the forces of nature that formed these natural wonders.

Then we dive back into the rainforest before rejoining the Border Track and back to the Binna Burra Teahouse to enjoy well-earned refreshments.

Easy to Moderate. A reasonable level of fitness is required to complete the 12-13km circuit. The track is rough and stony in places with a few long, steady climbs

Activity Report

Daves Creek Circuit 2022 Report

Under clear skies and with cool breezes, five intrepid walkers left Binna Burra just after 8am to complete the circuit before the expected midday heat. Fortunately, the heat did not eventuate but threatening showers kept the group moving, arriving back a Binna Burra with no more than a light drizzle.

Recent rains had scoured the tack, particularly on the escarpment where there is little overhead foliage to reduce the effect of the rain and rushing waters. A number of fallen shrubs and trees were testament to recent strong winds. However, the views across the valleys to Mount Hobwee and Springbrook and into Numinbah Valley far below were excellent and enriched the soul.

Back at Binna Burra, coffee and eats while enjoying magnificent views across Hinze Dam completed a most enjoyable day.
