Poinciana Perambulations – Cycle 2023
Description: Poinciana trees are in bloom in Redlands and there is no better place to enjoy their flamboyant colour than in the main street of Victoria Point. A great time to explore this scenic bayside suburb by bike to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area.
The ride will leave from Raby Bay Harbour Park (across the road in front of Cleveland Railway Station) to Victoria Point. It will be on walking/bike paths most of the way visiting the historic Cleveland Lighthouse, the heritage-listed St Pauls Anglican Church (C1873-74) before joining the Eddie Santagiuliana Way and cycling along the mangrove-fringed coastline and through Eprapah Creek and Pt Halloran Conservation Areas. Great views of the coastline and the bay islands are afforded along the way as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna. Enjoy a coffee and eats at a bakery or cafe in the main street of Victoria Point allowing time to enjoy the beauty of the poinciana trees before a leisurely treadle back to the Cleveland Station via Eddie Santagiuliana Way. (Total distance – around 45km)
This activity will be conducted in keeping with the Queensland Government’s Covid-19 directions at the time of the activity. Please do not attend this activity if you have been feeling unwell with Covid-19 related symptoms in the 7 day period before this activity.

Activity Grading: Easy. Undulating in places but no serious hills. Mainly on sealed bikeways, the ride is suitable for all bikes with a only a short section of unsealed path in Pt Halloran Conservation Park. Expected duration is 4-5 hours.
Meet: Raby Bay Harbour Park from 8.30am. Departure will be about 8.45am after the 7.35am train from Roma Street arrives in Cleveland around 8.35am. Free parking is available in the near vicinity.
Directions: Cleveland is less than 25km from the Brisbane GPO via Old Cleveland Road. Trains run regularly from Roma Street.
What to Bring: Bicycle, helmet, pump, spare tube/puncture repair kit, water, snacks, $5.00 NPAQ Fee, money for refreshments/lunch. Note: As it is mid-summer, expect the day to be quite hot so please ensure you wear protective clothing and plenty of sunscreen. There are water stations about every 10 km

Cycle Poinciana Perambulations 2023 Report
A cool, sea-breeze help counter the summer heat for the six cyclists leaving Raby Bay Harbour Park to explore the Moreton Bay Cycleway (MBC) to Victoria Point. Historical sites included the old Cleveland Point lighthouse, and the picturesque Anglican Church. The possible future of Toondah Harbour was considered as the group stopped at Oyster Point to admire the centuries-old mangroves some of which will disappear if the proposed development goes ahead.
Poinciana trees and native Hibiscus were among the many native trees in flower as the group moved south along the MBC. Water birds were seen on the mudflats at the end of a short detour at Point Halloran. From here, it was a short ride to the esplanade which provided great views of Moreton bay and the many islands of which Coochie Mudlo was the most prominent.
Poinciana Trees dominated the main street of Victoria Point where the riders enjoyed refreshments before cycling back to Cleveland via the “inland” route along quiet back streets.
