Wynnum Manly Foreshore Social Walk

Description: Let’s begin the New Year with an easy, social walk along part of the foreshore of beautiful Moreton Bay. We’ll stroll from Wynnum Creek to Manly Marina, enjoy a coffee at Cafe La Mer and walk back to Wynnum Creek. The Pelicans Nest Cafe makes a nice coffee (and lunch) for those feeling a bit ragged before returning to their cars and driving home.

Points of interest along the way include Wynnum Creek, The Wynnum Jetty, St Helena Island, Green Island, Wynnum Wading Pool and Water Park, Darling Point, the Manly Yacht Harbour and Marina.

St Helena Island National Park contains the ruins of a colonial Penal Settlement (1867-1932) for re-offending convicts in the recently settled Brisbane Town. Today, ruins of the barracks and other buildings can still be seen during day cruises to the island. Green Island is the only coral cay in Moreton Bay and is home to mangroves, seagrass and coral reefs, all in one small area.

As it is mid-summer, I expect the day to be hot, hopefully tempered by the cooling effects of a sea breeze. Therefore, ensure you slip on protective clothing, slop on lots of sunscreen, slap on a hat and slide on sunnies. Ensure you bring a water bottle. There are water fountains to refill during the walk.

This activity will be conducted in keeping with Queensland Government’s COVID-19 directions at the time of the activity. Please do not attend this activity if you have been feeling unwell with COVID-19 related symptoms in the 7 day period before this activity.
