Bird Report

11 members & 3 non-members attended

On this fine spring morning, as we entered the carpark, 5 noisy Channel-billed cuckoos loudly announced their presence, by the old fig tree.  As we approached the flock, they flew off in disgust, creating even more noise than when first heard.

We followed the Tingalpa Creek Circuit descending along a well used track passing other walkers enjoying the fresh morning air.  Despite water in the creek, only one waterbird was sighted.  Below is a list of birds observed.

Little Black Cormorant x 1, Peaceful Dove – heard, Bar-shouldered Dove – heard, Channel-billed cuckoo x 5, Fan-tailed cuckoo-heard, Galah x 2, Sulpha-crested Cockatoo x 2, Rainbow Lorikeet – heard x 2, White-throated Treecreeper x 3, Scarlet Myzomela (honeyeater) x 2, Brown Honeyeater x 1,White-throated Honeyeater x 2, Yellow-faced Honeyeater x 1, Noisy Miner x 11, Striated Pardalote – heard, Brown Thornbill x 1, Grey Butcherbird x 1, Pied Butcherbird x 2, Australian Magpie x 1, Pied Currawong x 1, Black-faced Cuckooshrike x 1, Rufous whistler x 1, Grey Shrikethrush x 1, Grey Fantail x 2, Torresian Crow x 5, Eastern Yellow Robin x 2.

Thanks to all participants for a delightful morning of birdwatching.

Venman Bushland National Park is about 40 km south of Brisbane’s CBD.  Mr Jack Venman agreed to gazette his property as an environmental park in 1971 and then as a national park in 1994.  Mr Venman lived on the property, caretaking and overseeing management of this parkland that he loved.  The open forest of Venman Bushland National Park supports many animal species, including koalas, brushtail and ringtail possums and gliders.  Red-necked wallabies are commonly found in and around the picnic area.

After meeting just beyond the carpark at the picnic area, we will make our way along the Venman’s Circuit by Tingalpa Creek. Find out more about the park HERE.
