Report from Birdwatching Week
On Monday 16th March 2026 the camp kitchen provided an idea environment for the welcome to the NPAQ bird camp and outline of the planned activities as well as for Happy Hour on most afternoons.
Tuesday 17th
Activities included:
0630: Bird walk on the Booyong Track where to our surprise a couple of whipbirds made themselves available for picture postcard photos.
0830: Moran Falls & return
1330: Rainforest Walk
1530: Kamurin Lookout for sunset and Happy Hour
Wednesday 18th
0630: Bird walk on Booyong Track
0900: Python Rock
1400: Short drive and birdwalk
Thursday 19th
0630: Bird walk along Border track and Booyong Track
0915: Mick’s Tower and Wishing Tree Track
1400: Botanical Gardens short walk interrupted by rain
Friday 20th
0630: Bird walk – on our way to Booyong Track – sightings of two Albert Lyrebirds digging in the soil by the carpark

We will be based at the Campground at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in the Green Mountain section of Lamington National Park. There is a variety of accommodation in the campsite including powered safari tents (which can accommodate 3 non family participants comfortably), campsites and camper van/camper trailer sites with powered sites available. See oreillys.com.au and go to O’Reilly’s Campground where you can book and pay online for your accommodation.
Some non-birdwatching activities may be included.
You must be a financial member of the National Parks Association of Qld to attend.
Please pay NPAQ fees before camp. No registration money will be handled at camp by the leader.
NPAQ Fee is $8 per person.
Options for payment of NPAQ fee:

2. Credit card to NPAQ Office, telephone 07 3367 0878. Note: there is a surcharge for credit card use. Advise the Office that the money is for the “Activities Account”.
3. Cheques accepted but there is a preference for other forms of payment. Attach a note to cheque: “To be paid into Activities Account”.
