Birdwatching – 2018 – Nudgee Waterhole 25th Febuary

We followed a well-constructed wooden board walk through a mature ti-tree forest then a deco granite constructed track through bushland with very large mature eucalyptus trees. As the morning progressed the temperature rose with very humid conditions. The birds were not as prolific as our previous visit but we did sight 27 birds and heard 3 birds. We then drove to Nudgee Beach Reserve for morning tea followed by the circuit walk along the bank of Nudgee Creek and through the thick mangrove tree forest to a bird hide. This walk was enjoyed in the cooling onshore Sea-breeze. Some folks remained for lunch following a very enjoyable outing. Birds sighted and heard: Australian Brush Turkey, Black Swan, Australian Wood Duck, Pacific Black Duck, Australasian Grebe, Crested Pigeon, Australasian Darter, Little Pied Cormorant, Little Black Cormorant, Pied Cormorant, Intermediate Egret, Australian White Ibis, Dusky Moorhen, Eurasian Coot, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Rainbow Lorikeet, Laughing Kookaburra, Sacred Kingfisher, Dollarbird, Superb Fairy-wren, Spotted Pardalote (H), Yellow-faced Honeyeater, Noisy Miner, Blue-faced Honeyeater, Noisy FriarbirdFollowing two days of heavy rain, six people arrived at Nudgee Water Hole Reserve to a clear sky.
