Bushwalk – Boombana to Jolly’s Lookout and Return

The night before our walk the heavens opened and several storms throughout the night brought good rain. The morning brought a fine winter’s day with a strong wind from the west. Seven members arrived at the Boombana picnic area for an early morning tea and then set off on the Thylogale walking track. On the way we stopped to talk to the NPAQ Vegetation Management Group of Angus, John and Russell who were busy weeding a slope with wonderful views towards Lake Samsonvale. We made good time to Jollys Lookout and settled for an early lunch. After lunch, we completed the Egernia circuit before retracing our route on the Thylogale track. On our return to Boombana picnic area we decided to add the Pitta circuit to our walk to admire the magnificent strangler figs. As it was time for coffee and cake, we managed to get to the Mount Nebo Café for last orders and be the last out before closing time. It was a very social day with easy walking in a lush rainforest.

This walk is in the South D’Aguilar Section of D’Aguilar National Park and is only a short distance from the edge of Brisbane’s suburbia. We will walk from the Boombana picnic area to Jolly’s Lookout around the Pitta Circuit and the along then Thylogale Walking Track a distance of 5 kilometres. As the track passes through most of the major forest types of the Park, an observer should see a variety of birds – whip bird, wompoo fruit dove, Australian king parrot, Australian log runner, yellow tailed black cockatoo, green catbird, regent bowerbird and large billed scrub wren. We will include the Egernia Circuit when we get to the Jolly’s Lookout end of the Track. The NPAQ Vegetation Management Group should be working on this day, so there is the opportunity to see their work in progress. Lunch will be overlooking the Brisbane panorama from Jolly’s Lookout. We will return to Bombana picnic area along the same Track. There will be time for coffee at Mount Nebo if that is on your mind.

Bring folding chair and morning tea to have before the walk, bottle of water, sun screen, hat and picnic lunch to carry in your backpack.

This activity will be conducted in keeping with health department Covid-19 directions regarding social distancing, good hygiene practices and group size in force for the venue/area at the time of the activity. Please do not attend this activity if you are feeling unwell on the day, or may have had contact with Covid-19 in the 14 days prior to the activity.
