Australia is home to many species of shark, but perhaps one of the most notorious is the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). This incredible species can grow to 6m long (half the length of a bus!) and swim up to 60km/h. A great white has up to 300 teeth in its mouth at any time and is constantly regrowing new teeth to replace ones that fall out. Great whites primarily eat seals and small whales, but occasionally attack humans which may resemble their food source in the water.
IUCN status: Vulnerable
