Transparency for development proposals – National Parks Association of Queensland

November 2019

While there can be differing views about the costs and benefits of private (commercial) development in national parks, there is no dispute that the community should have a say regarding any private development on national park. The process approving construction of the Spicers Retreat’s Scenic Rim Trail development in Main Range National Park (the first private development in a mainland national park in 110+ years) has been opaque, sighting “commercial in confidence”. Help NPAQ call for transparency around any development proposals going forward. The details of any proposals and their associated impacts on Matters of National and State Environmental Significance should be made available to the public for comment (with submissions considered and responded to individually).

Please write to the Tourism and Environment Ministers with copies to the Department of Environment and Science and NPAQ (admin@npaq.org.au). A possible template is available here. Personalising your letter, using your own words, increases the impact of your letter.

Thank you for your action.
