The sulfphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is a large parrot commonly seen in woodland habitats throughout Australia. In some parts of the continent, these parrots are so prolific they are considered a pest, causing damage to crops, timber furniture and house verandahs, and competing with endangered glossy black-cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami) for food and habitat. Cockatoos are intelligent, long-lived birds that can live for 70yrs+ and have been domesticated around the world.
