Yellow-tailed black-cockatoos (Zanda funerea) feed on the seeds of banksias, hakeas and casuarinas, as well as the insect larvae that bore into the branches of wattles. After the establishment of extensive plantations of exotic Monterey Pines, the cockatoos may feed more often by tearing open pine cones to extract the seeds. These beautiful birds are found from the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, to southern and central eastern Queensland.
